Common pricing questions
What counts as a "page" when working out my price?
Page counts mean the actual published pages on your site, not every URL a crawler might find. Filters, sorting and pagination can add thousands of extra URLs without adding real pages. If you're not sure where you stand, I can take a look before you commit to anything.
What if my site is bigger than the largest tier listed?
Sites over a million pages, or content archives over 5,000, still get one fixed fee, agreed after a proper look at the site rather than against a published band. Get in touch and I’ll come back with a number.
Can I start with a fixed-fee audit and move to a retainer afterwards?
Yes, and it's a common path: the audit gives us both a clear, evidenced view of what's worth doing next, and a retainer is often the natural way to see it through. There's no obligation either way. An audit stands on its own if that's all you need.
How much time do I need?
It depends on how involved you need me to be, not just how big the task is. A second opinion or a specific question is ad hoc. Someone keeping SEO on the agenda and available for questions is Advisory. Actually driving work forward day to day, across your team, is Project support or Fractional lead, depending on how much of that role you want me carrying. If you're not sure, tell me what's going on and I'll suggest the right one rather than let you guess.
Do I have to commit to a fixed number of hours with a retainer?
There's no tie-in. Retainers run month to month, and if you need less support over time, that's fine. Longer relationships are rewarded with a preferential rate rather than being pushed back to a lower tier's price the moment hours dip. If you no longer need the support at all, I just ask for 30 days' notice: enough time to hand over properly and leave things in a good place.
Why choose a fractional lead over hiring someone full-time?
A full-time Head of SEO hire in the UK usually takes a few months from deciding you need one to them starting, once you count the notice period most senior candidates are already serving. A fractional lead gets senior input in place faster, without the recruitment process or the ongoing employment cost. It’s a slower start than my other tiers though, currently around two months, because I only run one fractional lead engagement at a time and would rather give it proper attention than split my week too thin.
Not sure which tier fits?
Tell me about your site or what you need, and I'll tell you honestly where you sit on this page, or whether something smaller covers it.
